Prologue — The Nightmare
October 31, 2025, New York City 4:00 am
On this darkest of October nights, I, the eldest of three Erinyes, shrouded in shadows, my formidable sisters beside me, born from a nightmare, hold dominion. Once-beautiful priestesses, now transformed into fearsome creatures, snakes writhing in our hair and blood eternally dripping from our eyes, bound in servitude to Apollo and Athena with a chilling purpose: to protect the sanctity of motherhood. We are judge, jury, and executioner.
Our court convenes where a taught-muscled man stands before us, stripped of his dignity, bound in the chains of his humility, accused of a grave crime. With a crooked finger aimed at the accused, I condemn him. "ένοχος!" I hear the sound of choking uncontrollably take over his thoughts. His teeth chatter, and a mist escapes from his mouth.
As the temperatures drop, his head thrashes from side to side. His eyes dart back and forth through the room, desperate for a way out, then he breaks free of his bondage with superhuman strength and sprints for an opening in the crowd, running for his life...
